Welton Dale

Welton Dale

East Yorkshire

Route: Welton Dale circular

Area: East Yorkshire

Date of walk: 21st August 2013

Walkers: Andrew

Distance: 6.7 miles

Ascent: 400 feet

I parked opposite the Green Dragon in the attractive village of Welton, and walked past the church

After a short distance I joined the Wolds Way, which passes through Welton Dale. We’d been along here two years ago on the first day of our Big Walk to Hackness. It was a beautiful section of the walk

After leaving the Dale and walking alongside chalk farmland I turned west to enter Long Plantation, from which there are huge views across the plain towards the Humber

There followed an easy walk back to Welton along the edge of the Wolds, with more big views as I went along

St Helen’s Church in Welton looked stunning in the late afternoon sunlight, and it was worth the walk for this alone
