Lake District Southern Fells

Book 4 – The Lake District Southern Fells

Alfred Wainwright’s The Southern Fells (Book Four of the Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells) was published in April 1960 and is dedicated to “The hardiest of all fellwalkers THE SHEEP OF LAKELAND the truest lovers of the mountains, their natural homes and providers of their food and shelter”

The Lake District Southern Fells covers the rugged, high-mountain territory of the Lake District bounded by Wasdale to the west, Borrowdale to the north, and Langdale to the east. It features 30 distinct summits, including the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike

In Wainwright’s words ‘This is magnificent territory for the fellwalker. There is nothing better than this’
