The Hotel Burg in Oberlech was recommended to us by our cousins and in turn we can recommend it without hesitation, it’s superb. The hotel is set in a fantastic location not only for skiing but also for hiking. At the start of another lovely day we walked out of the hotel to set out on a walk through the Tannberg region

After leaving the village of Oberlech we followed easy paths through Alpine meadows with stunning views in every direction. The wild flowers were a special feature of this walk, and progress was slow as we stopped so often to admire and try to identify the hundreds of species, many of which we’ve paid good money for in garden nurseries back home

After walking along a narrow path, we emerged to a point above Korbersee, a beautiful small lake surrounded by mountains – an idyllic spot, where we stopped for refreshments at the hotel overlooking the lake

From there it was an easy walk back to the finish at Kalbelesee Lake from where we caught the bus back to Oberlech
