Top 10 Lake Walks

These are my Top 10 Lake Walks. Several of these are in the Lake District, but these are subjective choices based on my experiences and I’ve walked around them so often that they have become like old friends

1 Buttermere

I've lost count of the number of times I've walked around Buttermere, there is beauty to be seen every step of the way

2 Lake Louise

We were lucky to see the stunning turquoise waters of Lake Louise in good light. This can be a busy place, but the crowds are soon left behind on this walk to another beautiful lake - Lake Agnes

3 Tarn Hows

Tarn Hows is set like a jewel among the surrounding lakeland fells and is a beautiful place at all times of the year, but especially so in autumn

5 Oeschinensee

Oeschinensee is a famous lake above the village of Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland. It’s considered one of the most beautiful lakes in all of Switzerland and one of its best kept secrets

6 Munkebu

Spectacular views over the lakes of Stuvdal and Tridals on this walk up Munkebu on the Lofoten Islands

7 Wastwater

The view to Wasdale Head from Wastwater is one of the classic views in the country and is well seen on this walk from Nether Wasdale

8 Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is a stunning turquoise colour and is set in a dramatic location beneath the towering limestone Ten Peaks. This walk took us to Consolation Lakes, nestled below fearsome scree slopes

9 Loweswater

This varied walk is one of our favourites and visits the tree lined shores of Loweswater in the western Lake District

10 Rydal Water

The circuit of Rydal Water is full of interest and is particularly beautiful in autumn
