Earlier in the day we’d followed a walk in Lynn Canyon and, having finished this by lunchtime, we still had time for another short walk. We drove over to the village of Deep Cove on the North Shore, which fronts onto Indian Arm, a branch of Burrard Inlet. There are several car parks, all operated by a company whose ticketing system does not recognise English addresses or phone numbers. After a few frustrating minutes we gave up our attempts and sought out some roadside parking further out of the village
We walked through Panorama Park, which passes by the stony beach in Deep Cove and has lovely views over Indian Arm. In the distance we could see our destination, Quarry Rock Lookout. We joined a path, part of the long distance Baden-Powell Trail, which took us into ancient woodland, with innumerable ups and downs, assisted much of the time by wooden staircases
Eventually we arrived at Quarry Rock, a massive lump of granite with good views across Burrard Inlet. Unfortunately, the area was a crowd scene and, after taking the obligatory photo, we beat a retreat and retraced our steps back to the start. The paths were too crowded for our liking and this spoilt our enjoyment of what would otherwise have been an excellent walk. Anyone following this route is advised to arrive early or visit out of season

We were carrying bear spray just in case, but the trail was very busy and so an encounter was unlikely
We are now on the final section of the 30 mile Baden-Powell Trail which starts at Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. It's also a running trail known as 'Knee Knacker'
