Loweswater

Loweswater

Western Lake District

Route: Circuit of Loweswater

Area: Western Lake District

Date of walk: 26th November 2016

Walkers: Andrew

Distance: 4.3 miles

Weather: Sun and blue skies – very cold

For the fourth day in a row we were greeted by a cloudless sky and sunshine, though as before it was very cold and the roads were treacherous on the short drive to Maggie’s Bridge at the start of the walk

I followed the track to Watergate Farm at the head of Loweswater and entered Holme Wood – the low sun and heavy frost made for a magical walk along the shore of the lake. When I reached Hudson Place I walked uphill and joined the Loweswater road and headed back along the other shore

The return leg involves some road walking, though much of this can be avoided by taking a narrow path closer to the lake. Just beyond the head of the lake I turned right along the narrow lane back to Maggie’s Bridge to complete the circuit

I can’t recall a better spell of November weather than this, enabling me to enjoy four classic walks in succession
