Sledmere is a completely unspoilt estate village, at the heart of which lies Sledmere House set in a landscape designed by Capability Brown

We parked by Eleanor Cross, one of the many monuments in and around Sledmere, and before we started our walk we wandered around the Annual Christmas Craft and Food Fair

After buying a few products to satisfy the inner walker we visited the walled garden and then set off on our ramble around the beautifully landscaped parkland. We followed private paths which were open today by kind permission of the estate, but anyone else planning to follow this walk is recommended to check that the grounds are open

The large herd of red deer could be seen from close quarters as we walked around, and there were wonderful views from the half way point back to Sledmere House. When we arrived back in the village we called into the village pub (purely in the interests of research), and lastly we looked inside the village church with its magnificent interior which is well worth a visit

It was a really enjoyable morning in a special place
