Loweswater

Loweswater

Western Lake District

Route: Circuit of Loweswater

Area: Western Lake District

Date of walk: 20th February 2016

Walkers: Andrew and Gilly

Distance: 3.9 miles

Ascent: 300 feet

Weather: wet cold and windy

Loweswater is unique in the Lake District, as it is the only lake that drains towards the centre of Lakeland – to Crummock Water which it was once joined to

We parked the small National Trust car park at Maggies Bridge and walked along the wide track to the head of Loweswater

Before too long it started raining and we wondered whether or not to abandon the walk. We perservered in the hope of a change in the weather but it never came and the conditions worsened as we went along

Eventually I had to store the camera away in the rucksack as it became impossible to take photos in the driving rain. Despite the conditions it was an enjoyable walk and we were glad we’d stuck to the task
