Glenridding

Glenridding

Eastern Lake District

Route: Glenridding Circular

Area: Eastern Lake District

Date of walk: 17th December 2016

Walkers: Andrew

Distance: 5.2 miles

Weather: Weak sun, cold

I well remember this first time I walked this route, almost exactly one year ago, and shortly after Storm Desmond had caused terrible flooding in the village when Glenridding Beck burst its banks. The village was a scene of devastation on that occasion but I’m glad to say that it’s well on the road to recovery with businesses now re-opened and flood defence work nearing completion

I parked in the centre of the village and headed up Glenridding valley with the beck on my left and then crossed it via Rattlebeck Bridge, making a slight deviation from last year’s route where there are a couple of options near Miresbeck

I followed the path up to Lanty’s Tarn, a well known local beauty spot, and descended into Grisedale from where there were good views along the valley towards some of lakeland’s finest fells. I then walked towards Patterdale along a path below Birks and Glenamara Park – a beautiful section of the walk

The final leg took me back over Grisedale Beck and then along a path beside the road back into Glenridding. This is a great low level walk which I can highly recommend
