Drewton

Drewton

East Yorkshire

Route: Drewton

Area: East Yorkshire

Date of walk: 26th December 2016

Walkers: Andrew and Gilly

Distance: 4.0 miles

Weather: Sunny and windy

After yesterday’s huge Christmas dinner, some of which we’d bought from the excellent farm shop at Drewton’s, it seemed like a good idea to walk off a few calories by returning to the area and walking round the adjoining Drewton Estate. Red kites are often spotted here, though we only had a fleeting glimpse of one today – I assume that the high winds made it hard for them to soar in the sky

We parked near the farm shop and walked along the estate road past Drewton Manor. Just beyond the manor we left the road and crossed Drewton Beck before starting the gradual climb up to the top of the wold. There were fabulous views over miles of open countryside as we made our way above Austin’s Dale

Near the top of the wold there’s a short section beside the busy B1320 but it only lasts for a couple of minutes before the start of the return leg above the other side of Austin’s Dale. After enjoying some more big views we gradually descended back into Drewton Dale, eventually reaching the estate road and from here we retraced our steps back to the start

It had been a perfect Boxing Day walk
