Swin Dale, North Newbald walk

North Newbald

East Yorkshire

Route: Drewton to North Newbald

Area: East Yorkshire

Date of walk: 17th January 2016

Walkers: Andrew

Distance: 7.5 miles

Ascent: 600 feet

Weather: Bright and cold, clouding over gradually

I parked near the entrance to Drewton Manor and walked past the Manor and its beautiful grounds before joining the Yorkshire Wolds Way at Comber Dale

I followed the Wolds Way through the plantations in East Dale and then climbed up to the top of the wold near High Hunsley, from where there are long views across the rolling countryside

After a short road section I descended into Swin Dale, a lovely dry valley which typifies the chalk landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds

As I approached the end of the dale I met Gilly coming in the opposite direction, just as planned, for this was a linear walk and I needed a lift back to the start

We walked into the attractive village of North Newbald together to end a very enjoyable walk. For anyone who has worked up an appetite after following this route there are ample rewards at the end of it – 2 pubs in the village, as well as the excellent Drewton’s back at the start
