The Drewton Estate is on the edge of the Wolds Way, and is a great place for walking. Today’s round was a slight variation on two walks I’d done last year, when I started from Drewton Manor. I have happy memories of those walks and was looking forward to another visit

On this occasion I parked on the roadside above Weedley Dale, where I used to go toboganning as a child, and walked along the lane as far as Comber Dale. I then headed down the dale and joined the Wolds Way, which took me through East Dale and up to the B1230

The short road section is the only unsatisfactory part of an otherwise great circuit but unfortunately can’t be avoided. After 5 minutes of traffic noise it was a relief to be back in the Drewton Estate and walking down to sylvan Drewton Dale

The Estate is well known for its red kites and I saw 3 of them – plus a buzzard – soaring high above, but they didn’t come close enough for a worthwhile photo

I then retraced my steps up Comber Dale and along the lane back to the car. Later that day we had roast beef for our Sunday lunch, the beef having been purchased earlier in the week from the excellent farm shop at Drewton – a fitting end to the day
