Crummock Water

Crummock Water

Western Lake District

Route: Crummock Water

Area: Western Lake District

Date of walk: 31st December 2016

Walkers: Andrew Gilly and David

Distance: 2.2 miles

Weather: Overcast

There was only time for a short stroll today but it’s worth recording in my walking diary as the surrounding landscape is beautiful. We parked at Park Bridge (aptly named – or perhaps not as there’s only room for two cars maximum)

After walking through Lowpark and above Highpark we climbed to the brow from where there is a good view along Crummock Water. We could have descended here by the side of the dry stone wall, but instead followed the path above the shore of the lake, before turning back to descend to the lakeshore path (which is very squelchy at the best of times)

When we reached the pump house we headed inland. Our intention had been to follow a path beside Park Beck, which we’ve done many times in the past, but this seems to be out of bounds now and a padlocked gate prevents access. Not to worry, as there’s a public footpath a little further away from the bank and we followed this back to Park Bridge

It was a short but very sweet little walk and a good choice for the final walk of 2016
